Snow Day!!

They say it NEVER snows in Madrid - but today they are wrong!! It has been snowing most of the day - probably about 4 or 5 inches so far!!! Yippee!! These 1st 2 pics were taken this morning and it's still going!

Jason & I set off to take Katie to school this morning, got halfway there, saw lots of people slipping & sliding or just stuck... and decided that maybe it just wasn't worth it! So he drove home while Katie & I walked part of the way in this winter wonderland. (of course we made sure Jason wasn't lonely by throwing snowballs at the car :-) ) At first Katie was done with the snow, but after awhile I convinced her to get back out there. So she & I spent awhile out there building a snowman (and even a baby snowman :-) ) and having fun making snowballs. I just really can't believe how beautiful it is and how fun it is to have this much snow!! We've heard from several people that Madrid hasn't seen snow like this in YEARS! This is the view behind our house at around 11 am.

The bad news is.... my parents are headed home today from their visit with us... so Jason left the house at 10:15 to take them to the airport. They finally got there at 1:45 - a trip that should have taken them 15 minutes!!! It is just a nightmare out there! They do have boarding passes for a different flight than they were originally on - so hopefully in a couple of hours they will be on their way. Jason is on his way home, but it is now 2:50 and he just called to tell me that he's running into closed road after closed road, and parking lots where the regular roads should be. YIKES!!! So Jason wins the son-in-law of the year award today. :-) Hopefully he'll be home soon!

So we are waiting for Daddy to come play with us - here is Katie dancing in the snow :-). I think we're going to try to rig up a sled and go sledding!

Update: Hooray! Jason just walked in the door at 3:05 - a mere 5 hours after leaving for the airport! (And again I say: YIKES!) But we are very glad he is home safe - now hopefully my mom & dad will get out of Madrid safely today too!

No we didn't! And it was very sad since all we had was a clothes basket!! (pics soon) When we got to the big sledding hill, one of our neighbors had pity on us and loaned us their sled :-) I was super sad that we didn't have the Radio Flyer tho!

This looks like a really fun day! All that snow! Wish C&C could see something like that! Update when you hear that your folks are safely on their way home. Sorry to hear about the road/flight situation. Good thing Jas is such a champ at driving in icy/snowy conditions!
Love,
Jenn

Live and learn when it rains or snows traffic turns into chaos. The Spanish can barely handle rain much less snow!!!

Madrid Man did a great post on it as well
