We are currently in Sevilla, enjoying this amazing city. All I can say is: WOW!!!! Sevilla is really amazing - we may never go home :-) We decided today that much of what you think of when you think of Spain can be found here in the region of Andalucia where Sevilla is located: the Moorish arches, the waves of white houses, flamenco, palm trees. It is really beautiful! We visited the cathedral today - the 3rd largest in the world after St Peters in Rome & St Pauls in London. It is also where Christopher Columbus is buried. The Moorish influence is everywhere in the city (the Moors occupied Spain for 700 yrs from 700AD till 1492) - they left really beautiful architecture! We also walked around a beautiful neighborhood called El Barrio de Santa Cruz and saw the amazing Plaza de Espana. This plaza was a semi-circle of buildings completely tiled with blue & yellow tiles. Absolutely beautiful! There was a fountain in the middle that we enjoyed wading in :-)
Tomorrow we are headed to see the Alcazar (a castle) and to enjoy a flamenco show in the evening. Katie is SOOOOO excited about this! She bought a flamenco dress for herself today with her spending money and is looking forward to wearing it for the big show. I hope she is not disappointed! (and I hope she can stay in her seat during the show :-) )
Pictures to come when we get home!
